Pretty good but could be better. As I use the app more, unfortunately I find more issues with it. I want to be able to simply swipe through the pictures of a trail, but I cannot find a way to do that other than the first few when they are partially obscured by other information, then it prompts me to switch to thumbnails of all images, and I cannot swipe through the full images. Also, if I select a national park, I cannot use filters to select among the hikes. Very frustrating.
I loved this app it's very helpful and easier than pulling my paper map out. 3 starts because the new premium "peak" version gives you a few additional features for the small fee of your soul. It's crazy expensive and I'm not sure why. it's quite the price jump from the lower priced subscription. it's annoying enough that I'll probably cancel my subscription and just go back to a compass and a map. That's more fun anyway.
SCAM!!! They are hiding the unsubscribing function so deep that you have to spend a lot of time figuring out where, in three different platforms, it is hidden, and how to deactivate it. They don't even have an unsubscribe button, and under the "Edit Account," you'll have to figure out that turning off autopay is a subscription cancellation! I'll never return to support this tricky, dirty marketing tactic.
Really over complicated and not intuitive at all. Every walk that you take gets lost and can't be found again. You can't walk your own path and then save it to use again. Pretty terrible app only for people who wanna research a serious hike and drive to it then take the hike. Doesn't guide you from where you are now to anywhere at all even when surrounded by paths and trails like we are here in Centennial Co. Total bummer for $40 a year. Good luck canceling before your 7 day free trial is up!
Using this app as much better than following the dotted lines on a Google map. The trail is made much clearer, and honestly the GPS seems to follow along a little bit better. Don't know why that would be. As a senior that has to be careful about difficulty and length of trail, this app helps me find trails that are more remote, yet within my capabilities.
As someone who has tested many of the apps (for offroading), this app is 50/50. It is great to use for finding trails and checking reviews. However, it lacks in navigation being set up poorly. Does not switch to landscape mode, does not have a dark mode for riding at night, waypoints are difficult to navigate or go to ither than just having to watch the map to see if you are going that direction. Missing some basic items that most of the other apps have for navigation / tracking.
This is the solid trail hiking map app for the average hiker. It's the perfect resource to plan trips and hikes. I haven't downloaded the paid version, but this is perfect for my needs. The methods used for milage and the sheer amount of trails is second to none. Also read the feedback from the hinges themselves. Learned that after a rough hike, and now it's changed my plans a couple of trips.
easy to use, allows me to find a bunch of trails that are near my house, that I never knew existed. the search features are excellent and the community contribution of pictures and maps is excellent. My only complaint has less to do with the app and more to do with the deficit of good signage on some trails. I also have the ability to build your own maps, using existing trails. I have recently started adding my own maps. I use this app pretty much every weekend to stay fit with my daughter.
There is no way to drop a GPS waypoint on the map. I think it is a must for any hiking app. The other problem is the location indicator. When hiking, it should be smooth as you are changing directions. The location indicator sometimes does not move for up 20 seconds after you change directions. It's not good when you are trying to find your way. It seems alltrails lack the basic essentials for a hiking app.
I really wanted to like this app. When I was home, it gave me all the data I was looking for in regards to topography and movement tracking, but out on the trail without cell service it behaved bad. I made sure to download the maps I could before I left, but the application locked up and didn't know what to do when it lost data connection. I canceled the trial before it charged me, but I would have gladly paid for it.
Update AGAIN: App keeps losing GPS signal while on trail even when I have full service. Continually get a pop-up blaming a battery optimizer or battery saver as the cause of this malfunction but I do not have any of those settings turned on my phone. The app is great esp if you get the paid version but lately it will not save my reviews. It says thanks for posting and then never posts. I tried several times over days and it won't save anything I type for a review, not even my rating.
Pushing AllTrails+ too hard. I understand a company needs to make money, but showing an ad for AllTrails+ EVERY time I save a map to a list is excessive and decreased my user experience enough I just decided to delete the app and look for an alternative. I tried AllTrails+ for a year and decided it just wasn't for me. Overall not a bad app, but I don't like having ads pushed that excessively.
Solid data set and some great visualizations, hampered by a clunky UI. Maps + user contributions make it superior to other sources for us trail hounds. Bad: clunky in phone ux. Eg: can't zoom out the map from a search even for something adjacent. Can't bulk download if you're doing multiple trails in the same area. No caching of surrounding area. Odd "back" behavior. Still, it remains one of the few apps I pay for.
The distance of EVERY trail is wrong. I have hiked many trails thinking it was just a miscalculation here and there but every trail has been off anywhere from .2 to 1 (!) whole mile. That's a huge problem. In addition, I have not had a single trail be able to be completed without having to constantly check to make sure it didn't stop logging my progress. I'll stop to take a look at the map to find out it hasn't been logging my progress for miles. Constantly tapping "resume."
Been using it for years and when it works, it's great but it's so frequently riddled with frustrating bugs that ruin the experience or create safety issues. I'm a Plus subscriber with offline maps. Recently in the middle of a park without signal, AllTrails decided I needed to "sign in" which I couldn't do without service. And it blocked me from accessing my offline trails and maps. That should never happen. Laggy UI all the time, crashes, and latest is the share list feature just spins. Fix pls!
I love the app, it has a lot of trails and options plus the ability to download trails. However, while I was out hiking today it logged itself out and due to the fact that I was somewhere with no cell service I could not log back in. Therefore the app that I pay for would not let me access the trails I had downloaded. This could have been a major issue if I was in an unfamiliar area.
Unhelpful, often incorrect, drains battery like crazy. Downloaded the app and signed up for Premium before a recent trip to Izu in Japan. 3 big issues: 1. Many trails shown on the map didn't exist. This caused hours of travel to be wasted multiple times 2. Didnt show many interesting landmarks, and missing most local hikes. No way to set custom hikes. 3. Drains 1% battery every time you open the app, and about 1% every 30 seconds its open. Even in airplane, in battery saver, offline maps, etc.
just a bad monopoly on hiking apps. was paying for a premium membership and tolerated it to support development of better features, but then instead they introduced a higher paid tier and put features in it that we could previously already do. so no, I don't recommend this predatory behavior. I'll find another way to navigate on the trail, thanks
I love the app in a lot of ways. My frustration is the fact the app will completely not count recordings and act like it never happened, pauses randomly in the middle of navigation without me knowing not recording part of my hike. Really frustrating sometimes when you want to be able to retrace paths!
I've been using this app for years and it is very helpful in timeing my hikes/directions if a trail isn't clearly defined. If it weren't for the recent surge of a ton of pop ups/ads to buy the membership, I would give it 4/5 stars. (the pop ups are getting increasingly agressive guys, tone it down fr)
